What constantly blows my mind, as a worldly person, is the mind control that allow the rank and file JW to believe these elders are so wise and well trained. How they will accept the judgement and advice of these elders against their own common sence and instinct to protect their children. It baffles me! Even now, I'm afraid most will not question the organization. It is the mind control I find so very very scary.

Dateline video - purchase or download?

i missed it, so i was wondering how i can get ahold of a video.

does anyone who taped it plan on recording it in .avi format for download?.

or did they air a 1-800 number to call to order a video?

The show just ended here. It's midnight now. Anyway, the phone number to order the video was shown right at the very end. Check if you have it taped, or I e mail me and I will look for it for you tomorrow morning.

instead our local nbc station ran the lame local news.

i have waited for a year to watch this.

It came on at 11:00 here. Too bad it was so late. I'm sure they lost a lot of their audience. I taped it for my family to watch tomorrow.
It was a powerful show.

What does the average Witness know?

i have to wonder what the average witness today knows?

i guess they are under orders not to talk to anyone that might actually be able to inform them of any facts that are negative or unflattering to the society, but what have they found out anyway, through whatever means, even the publications?.

1. do they know that russell got a lot of dates from the measurements of pyramids, including 1914?

Thank you all of you. What you say makes so much sense, and I do think that what Joeshmoe says is likey exactly how he thinks....oh, and lacking in ambition is right! As it said so often on this board, it is hard for worldly people to understand.
To pull it back to the topic, it seems that the average JW may hear things, but not want to know them. Their social isolation restricts what they hear, but they don't believe it anyway!!! Maybe they have to be in the right place in their lives so that it doesn't just roll off their back. Like I said, it sure puzzles me!

What an interesting question? As an outsider, it always puzzles me how a JW can believe what they do, but then I guess they don't get exposed to alternative viewpoints???? Or do they, and they just don't believe them???

The only JW thatI know well is my daughter's 15 year old boyfriend. He seems to "not know" a whole lot about the outside world even though he lives in it for the school hours every day. I thought a teenager would question everything, especially a religion that isolates him from his school friends and even his girlfriend. What is it, laziness, lack of intellectual curiosity??? I suggested to to my daughter that he was brainwashed, and that infuriated the young man. He says he just doesn't care about any of the issues as they don't affect him??? Huh.....they don't?????? If I was a teenager, I would certainly want to know why I should bleed to dealth rather than accept blood. He says his Mom reads too many little magazines, but he mostly believes what she tells him from them....except the part about "bad associations". He is a sweet, amazingly intelligent kid, but there is just a lack of curiosity there.

I don't think he CONSCIOUSLY knows/thinks much about his religion at all. He says he has no choice because he is a kid, and I have to admit, that's true. It still puzzles me.

Hawk,
I haven't seen or heard a peep about this in the press here. With the issue of the residential schools getting a fair amount of publicity, and the abuses there, I thought this would be a logical follow up. You know, abuses in the modern day, and how they are handled.
With the situation of Shunned Father in Calgary, there would be "local interest" here, I would think.
